What can I do for my ac to save money on my electric bill?
Install a Programmable Thermostat: A programmable thermostat allows you to set temperature schedules based on your daily routines, reducing energy usage when cooling is not needed, such as when you're asleep or away from home.
Seal and Insulate Ductwork: Leaky or poorly insulated ductwork can lead to energy loss and reduced cooling efficiency. Seal duct joints with mastic or metal tape and insulate ducts in unconditioned spaces like attics and crawl spaces.
Utilize Ceiling Fans: Ceiling fans can complement your AC system by circulating air more effectively, allowing you to raise the thermostat temperature without sacrificing comfort. Make sure your ceiling fans are set to rotate counterclockwise in the summer for cooling airflow.
Shade Your Home: Install shading devices such as blinds, curtains, or awnings to block direct sunlight from entering your home, especially on south- and west-facing windows. This reduces heat gain and eases the workload on your AC system.
Limit Heat Sources: Appliances, lighting, and electronics generate heat, increasing the demand on your AC system. Use energy-efficient appliances, switch to LED lighting, and minimize heat-producing activities like cooking during the hottest parts of the day.
